Unsere Museumskarte

We have collated a lot of information in museums in Hamburg and its neighborhood in our map. When blogging a post, we always try to add a tip for a restaurant or cafe so that the daytrip is a successful one for all family members.

The category Museums & Technics comprises for example the many open air museums, which put the life of our ancestors on display and which are usually gorgiously constructed and are worth just walking through and admire the landscape and the cute reet-covered farm houses. Our favrite places are the Kiekeberg museum South of Hamburgs, the Museum Village Volksdorf in the North of Hamburg and the huge Freilichtmuseum Molfssee close to Kiel.

On the other hand you will find the classical museums here, but which offer a speficially children-friendly program or exhibition. To name but a few: the Altonaer Museum, the Hamburg Museum or the Völkerkundemuseum. And then there are museums which are as a whole interesting for children, first amongst many lovely ones: the Klick! Kindermuseum in Hamburg-Osdorf or the Wikingermuseum in Schleswig, or the Teddy bear museum and the Marcipane museum in Lübeck. Take also a look into the category page “Museums & Technics” – there are a lot of up-to-date tips for events hosted by museums.

Hamburg Museum 2

Hamburg Museum

The museum, also called Museum of Hamburg History, offers regular weekend family events. After or before the event, you can, for example, eat a waffle at Cafe Fees (in the spectacular courtyard of the museum). Or you can go ice skating in the winter or roller skating in the summer in the Eisarena next door. Or spent some time on the big playground in the Wallanlagen. In any case, the venue allows for a full-day program;)

The offered events are:

  • Family tour „What? How? Where? I see!“ (that’s a rough translation) each Saturdays and Sundays 1:00 – 2:00 pm, children aged 5+ with or without parents
  • Sunday Kids (each Sunday 2:00 – 5:00 pm, children aged 5+ with or without parents, 2 EUR contribution for materials): tinkering, painting, glueing and a lot more
  • Museum Mouse (any day, any time): Children’s tour with 50 spots to explore Kinder

The respective themes of the day can be found under “the calender” on the webseite of the Hamburg Museum.

Cap_San_Diego

Museum boat Cap San Diego

The Cap San Diego is a museum boat which allows insights into the basic technicalities of a motor vessel built in 1961 as well as life on board. On deck beautiful views to the Landungsbrücken and the new (half-ready) landmark Philharmonie seduce to make pictures. With its 3D exhibition it is also interesting for children and because of its perfect location it is a good spot to show to visitors. There some real life ancient cabins on show, one can see the big freight hold and since last year one can even climb the sails (allthough that is for groups only as far as we know). After or before the visit a walk along the harbor promenade is always fun for children. They love to run down the brigdes and tease the sea gulls.
