In order to meet the taste of your kids when intending to “just walk the city”, Winterhude district, it is best to start at Jungfernstieg and take the HVV ferry, regularly going barges, to the “Winterhuder Fähranleger”. Like that the whole thing starts a an adventure. The HVV station is right at the beginning of the lively Mühlenkamo and you decide on one side of the road to stroll down and do some window shopping. Turn right into Preystrasse as at its middle there is a nice little yard with a playground. Whilst watching your offspring you can admire the beautiful townhouses built in the late 18th century. When done continue to Forsmanstrasse turn right and you’ll end up at the equally lively Gertigstrasse which you walk back to Mühlenkamp- Continue the stroll of the Mühlenkamp up to the end and walk back the other side of the street. Once you have reach the ferry station again your last target is the ice cream shop Delzepich Eis at the end of Winterhuder Weg. The team of the wonderful lovingly designed ice cream parlor Delzepich prepares the ice cream several times a day in the visible ice maker. Fresh milk and natural ingredients only, are, following a decades-old recipe, are turned into super delicious ice cream. Take your ice cream and walk back to Mühlenkamp where you can either take the ferry back or the bus number 6Back then you can simply take the bus number 6, which runs through the fantastic Hofweg down and through the Lange Reihe in St. George. Doing the latter you will be seeing the most popular street of that distric, too.

For older children you can alternatively ride the bike along the inner and outer Alster lakes up to the Literature House Cafe. Here you can either continue along the various streets and admire the gorgious villas when meandering to the same ferry station (there is no way to miss ist since the Alster lake turns into a channel here and there is no way to cross but the Mühlenkamp. The other possibility is to drive down the Hofweg. I recommend to park the bikes at the ferry station and continue walking to fully enjoythe window shopping. The playground will be left out but the Gertigstrasse is worth strolling down. Basically same route as with younger children you end up with ice cream at hand at your bycicles. Now, hard choice: take the long route around the full outer Alster lake, or, drive down the Hofweg up to its very end, it continues as Papenhuder Strasse, turn right at the very end and then head streight on until Hauptbahnhof. Again you will ride throught the lively Lange Reihe. Btw. you can easily rent a citybike. Check out our website: http://hamburgrelocation.de/city-guide-hamburg/mobile-in-hamburg/city-bike/.
