A wonderfully calm and peaceful family trip is a journey with the tank engines of the narrow-gauge railway Buchhorster Waldbahn. On special occasions, such as Whitsunday, the little engine shed opens its doors and lets the ancient steam engines into the sun and puts them into operation. The small team welcomes you to its idyllic location, a piece of self-made cake and coffee and a short trip with the trains. Sometimes, children are allowed to sit in the engine and ring the bell all the way up to the final station – a real highlight! But depends on the train driver 😉
Two little trains are constantly sauntering up and down the mellow hill through light forest. When the other trains coming down, one of them needs to go on a side track. The driver jumps off, moves the junction, chats with the other driver and jumps on again. Another highlight to watch. The whole tour just takes about 15-20 minutes. Having reach the termination station one could step off and walk back down on a beautiful path, but…I mean who wants to walk if one could sit in the cosy swinging and bucking waggon?!

In the past the railway was used to transport red brick from the manufacture to the close harbour in Lauenburg. If asked, the driver explains a lot, the little set-up is their passion!
