I did not know it until very recently, but always wondered whether the Museum of Arts and Crafts would not offer a similar children area as most of our museums in Hamburg. Well, it is not exactly visible at first glance on their website, but it is there, just hidden under “Vermittlung”. A huge space is dedicated to the children: 250 square meters wonderland where you can act as a designer, architect or artist. Usually with a limited supervison by museum pedagogical staff, you can craft and tinker to your heart’s desire, invent and construct, photograph and create cartoons, dress up or play with shadows. And just take a look at the photos! This will make some adults’ designer heart beat faster! You see the table under the ceiling !!! Terrific.

And if your kids are big enough to be left alone, you may have the opportunity to explore one or the other exhibition.

Apart from the children’s realm, there is also a Sundaychildren offer every first Sunday at 3:00 pm. You will be designing clothes from bubble wrap, knead food or make music.

Try it!

Oh and by the way, for those who afterwards still have a wee bit of time and energy: just a jump across the street is the Central Library with its grand children’s section. You will probably be lucky and find literature in your mother tongue. And even though you may now borrow anything now – you will for sure be coming back!
