Daytrip to Salem Lake

The Salem Lake is located an hour’s drive from Hamburg and belongs to the Ratzeburg lakes. The last bit of driving leads you through beautiful Schleswig-Holstein’s landscapes and sweet little villages. Directly at the lake in Salem is a small swimming area – it is opposite the church and ample parking is available. At the car park there is also a small boat launch , where you can rent paddle boats. This is real fun. I do not know whether life jackets are available, thus a short upfront phone call is recommended.
The small bay has beautiful shallow water with a sandy bottom. A large willow hangs its leaves into the lake, creating a cavernous room, where exploring the underwater world is especially exciting. Bringing catching net and diving goggles will definitely be appreciated by your kids. I have been told that from time to time they install a fresh water shower, but when we went there was none. Also attached is the bistro Landlust am See, which is operated by an acquaintance of ours. You can get ice cream and homemade cake, the obligatory French Fries red-white and all sorts of delicious entrees, partially with a Turkish touch. The bistro obviously also provides restroom facitlities. From a small bridge, bigger children can jump into the water and for the toddlers, there is a slide and a water playground. Bring a towel and enjoy the idyll!
