Another tip for a weekend excursion is the prince’s island at the Plöner lakes North of Hamburg. A beautiful shadowy walkway (feasable even for small children) leads ultimately to a small and neat sand beach with snack bar, toilettes and showers. The water is knee to belly-deap and crystal clear. We always combine it with lunch or coffee at the Niedersächsisches Bauernhaus, a couple of metres further down, in their beautiful garden.
