The Prince’s Island
Another tip for a weekend excursion is the prince’s island at the Plöner lakes North of Hamburg. A beautiful shadowy walkway (feasable even for small children) leads ultimately to a small and neat sand beach that at this time of the year invites to throw stones. One could also leave the normal walkway and explore the tiny trails leading you alongside the lake’s banks, all ultimately lead to the restaurant. We always combine it with lunch or coffee at the Niedersächsisches Bauernhaus, a couple of metres further down. There is a little, somewhat delapidated playground, too. And if you bring a lot of time, you can take the ferry once around the lake.
